 TLM is an international medical charity working towards the eradication of the causes and consequences of leprosy, which is still a massive problem in many parts of the world. Someone catches leprosy every two minutes.
Tens of millions of people are living with the affects of leprosy despite having been completely cured. Worst of all, the stigma can be as bad now as it always has been with many patients having to endure unbelievable stigma and social exclusion, despite being completely cured of the disease. TLM operates in over 28 affected countries covering a population of over 300 million people. We not only provide extensive medical care in these countries, but also social and economic rehabilitation programmes as well as widespread advocacy, education and research programmes.  It’s all very well being cured of leprosy - which, incidentally is relatively cheap and easy to do - but if you still can't find work due to social stigma and isolation, the curse of leprosy has remained with you. In 2006, over 60,000 people and 3,700 households benefited from TLM socio-economic welfare to reintegrate them back into society.
Indeed, TLM has become so skilled in this type of work that we often include other disabled or disadvantaged people as part of our project work. Gifts that change lives and TLM Trading are only a small part of TLM's overall vision to reintegrate leprosy affected or otherwise disabled people back into society.
